People moves: Kevin Bohl steps up as interim general counsel at Ventas

Plus Vanguard, Oportun and L&G make appointments to their global risk teams

Kevin Bohl has been named as interim general counsel, ethics and compliance officer and corporate secretary as Ventas.

Bohl, who was named governance professional of the year (large cap) at the 2024 Corporate Governance Awards, takes over from Carey Roberts who has announced plans to resign from the company as of June 26. He currently serves as SVP, deputy general counsel and assistant corporate secretary

Roberts is leaving Ventas to join Blackstone as senior managing director and general counsel – real estate. She joined the company in 2020 and was previously EVP, chief legal officer and corporate secretary of Assurant as well as deputy general counsel, global chief compliance officer and corporate secretary of Marsh & McLennan Companies. Earlier in her career she was a partner in the corporate practice of Covington & Burling LLP.

At the same time, Vanguard has promoted Manish Nagar to the role of chief risk officer and managing director, effective as of January 1, 2027.

Nagar currently serves as Vanguard’s head of business and operational risk. He joined the company in 2020 and has held serval different positions during this time including chief risk officer for investment management, head of risk for the firm's European businesses and as Vanguard's chief information security officer.

Nagar will succeed Joe Brennan, who will retire from Vanguard at the end of the year after more than three decades with the company.

‘He [Nagar] brings both depth and range across investments, IT, cyber, and operational risk, and he is a proven developer of talent who will help us continue to strengthen the next generation of Vanguard leaders,’ says Greg Davis, Vanguard president and chief investment officer.

Over at Nasdaq-listed financial company Oportun, Sean Rowles has been named as chief risk officer to lead its risk and credit functions. Rowles succeeds Patrick Kirscht who has stepped down from the role after 18 years with the firm.

Rowles enters the role with over 30 years of experience in global financial services. Before joining Oportun he served as chief risk officer and head of operations at Imprint. Before that he held a number of senior executive risk roles at PayPal including global chief credit officer.

‘Sean's deep experience across consumer credit, risk management and financial services operations in both fintech and traditional banking makes him exceptionally well-suited to lead this function at Oportun. We are confident he will build on the strong foundation Pat and his team have established and help drive Oportun's continued success,’ says Doug Bland, CEO of Oportun.

Staying in the US, Red Rock Resorts – a provider of gaming, hospitality and entertainment – has named Colby Williams as EVP and general counsel, taking over for Jeffrey Welch who is retiring.

Williams is expected to join the company around September 8 and will oversee all of its legal, regulatory and compliance matters.

Welch has served as EVP and chief legal officer of Red Rock Resorts since June 2017 and previously served on the board of directors of Station Holdco from 2013 to 2016.

Elsewhere, Honeywell Aerospace has appointed Hugh Hollman as its next general counsel, antitrust.

Confirmed in a LinkedIn post, Hollman says: ‘Honeywell Aerospace is expected to complete its spin-off from Honeywell and begin trading on Nasdaq under the ticker HONA, opening its next chapter as an independent, publicly traded company.’

He adds he is glad to be joining ‘an outstanding team at this pivotal moment’.

At the same time, Nasdaq-listed J&J Snack Foods has confirmed that Michael Pollner, SVP, general counsel and secretary has submitted a notice of resignation, effective June 30, 2026. 

Pollner joined the company in 2022 and previously worked as SVP, chief administrative officer, general counsel and secretary at Knoll between 2025 and 2021. J&J Snack Foods has begun a search for his successor.

Over at component manufacturer NN, Jami Statham has confirmed her plans to step down from her role as SVP, general counsel and corporate secretary as of July 9, 2026.

Statham will continue in her post throughout the transition period with the company to carry out an external search for candidates in the interim.

Before joining NN, Statham served as deputy general counsel at Nexteer Automotive.

Lastly, Legal & General Group has appointed Zoe Wimborne as group chief risk officer. Wimborne will join in August and will oversee L&G’s global risk framework reporting to group CEO, António Simões.

She enters the role with over 30 years of experience in the space. She most recently served as Global Head of Credit Risk Review at Citi, although she has held several positions at the bank in recent years, including international chief risk officer and EMEA regional chief risk officer. Prior to this, Wimborne was the managing director – EMEA, head of lending and deputy head of credit risk at Morgan Stanley and managing director of risk at both Citi and Barclays Investment Bank. 

Wimborne is taking over from Chris Knight, who stepped down as from the role after 17 years with L&G.
