Sturm, Ruger loads Sarah Colbert into new role as general counsel and corporate secretary

She will succeed current general counsel Kevin Reid, who is retiring

Firearm maker Sturm, Ruger has promoted its vice president of administration to take over as its vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.

Sarah Colbert will succeed current general counsel Kevin Reid, who is retiring after serving in the role since 2008.

As a vice president, Colbert will maintain her role on Sturm, Ruger’s leadership team, a position she has held since June 2017. In this capacity, she will continue to help shape strategic decisions and guide cross-functional collaboration across the company, according to a press release.

She will also take on all of the wider responsibilities of a general counsel and corporate secretary ‘during a critical time in the firearms industry’, Sturm, Ruger adds.

Colbert joined Sturm, Ruger in 2011 as associate general counsel. Prior to that, she practiced law at Day Pitney LLP and Ryan Ryan Deluca LLP. She also served on the Connecticut Supreme Court Chief Justice’s Civil Commission on Alternative Dispute Resolution and the Electronic Discovery Committee.

Colbert graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2005 where she earned a Certificate in Taxation, studied at Suffolk University and completed Wharton’s General Management Program in 2025.

‘Sarah has made tremendous contributions to Ruger over the past 14 years,’ says the company’s president and CEO Todd Seyfart. ‘Her combination of legal expertise, strategic thinking and operational leadership uniquely positions her to serve in this expanded role. We’re confident in her ability to lead our legal and governance functions while continuing to support the company’s long-term objectives.’
