Kelly Ott brings more than 30 years of experience to the role

Frankenmuth Insurance has brought in a former State Farm lawyer as its new chief legal officer and corporate secretary.

Kelly Ott has joined the Frankenmuth, Michigan-based firm effective from April 28, and will serve as its top legal advisory, overseeing corporate legal matters, governance and regulatory compliance across the company and its subsidiaries. She will also serve as Frankenmuth’s corporate secretary, overseeing board procedures and supporting various executive committees.

Ott brings more than 30 years of experience in private practice and in-house legal leadership, according to a press release published by Frankenmuth Insurance.

She previously held senior roles at State Farm, where she served as legislative and regulatory counsel and managing attorney for claims litigation; at Horace Mann, where she was vice president and assistant general counsel; and most recently at The Hanover Group, where she served as vice president and counsel.

‘Ott is a prominent member of Michigan's insurance community,’ the press release adds. ‘She has expertise in Michigan's no-fault laws, personal injury protection coverages and its Essential Insurance Act. She is a past chair and a current board member of Insurance Alliance of Michigan. She also served on the board of directors of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and the Michigan Auto Insurance Placement Facility.’
